  ಎಸ್‍ಐಟಿ ತನಿಖೆಯು ಕೇವಲ ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದಿರುವ ಅಪರಾಧಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆಯ ಅಗ್ನಿಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಬಹುತೇಕ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರನ್ನೇ ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವ, ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಳ ನರಮೇಧದ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಸ್‍ಐಟಿ ತನಿಖೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಿಶ್ವಾಸದ ಒಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಾಯಕ ಘಟ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಭರವಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದರ ಬದಲು, ಎಸ್‍ಐಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಈ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ರೀತಿ ಗಮನಿಸಿದರೆ, ಇದು ತನಿಖೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೇ ಅನುಮಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದ್ದು, ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆಡಹದಂತೆ, ಪ್ರಭಾವಶಾಲಿ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ತನಿಖೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ದ್ರೋಹದ ಭಾವನೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಕವಾಗಿ ಹರಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಮಹಿಳಾ ಸಮೂಹಗಳ ಆಕ್ರೋಶವು ರಾಜ್ಯವ್ಯಾಪಿ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರುವಂತಹ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ವಿವಾದವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಗಳು ನಿಚ್ಚಳವಾಗಿವೆ. ವಿವಿಧ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಹಿಳಾ ಗುಂಪುಗಳು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಭೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ನಾಚಿಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ತನಿಖೆಯನ್ನು ಹಳ್ಳ ಹಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇವರ ಆಕ್ರೋಶವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಲು ಕಾರಣ, ಸೌಜನ್ಯಾಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಚಳುವಳಿಯನಾಯಕರಾದ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ತಿಮರೋಡಿ, ಚಿನ್ನಯ್ಯ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿರುವುದು. ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತ ತನಿಖೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಂಬಿಸುವ ಬದಲು, ಈ ಬಂಧನಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿರೋಧವನ್ನು ಅಡಗಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಳದ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿ ...

  ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಳದ ಸಮೀಪ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನಡೆದ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಭೆಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಂಜುನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಆಡಳಿತದ ಅನುವಂಶೀಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ವೀರೇಂದ್ರ ಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆ ಸಭಿಕರ ಮುಂದೆ ಕುತೂಹಲಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದರು: "ಜನರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಏಕೆ ದ್ವೇಷಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆÉ". ಈ ಮಾತಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುವುದು, ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಜನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುವಂತೆ ಅವರು ಮಾಡಿದ ಮನವಿ. ಯಾರೂ `ಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಸಲಾಗದ' ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಇಷ್ಟು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಇದ್ದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಈಗ ಅಭದ್ರತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ವಿಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಅವರ ಅಮಾಯಕತನ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸುತ್ತ ಬೀಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಿರುಗಾಳಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅರಿವಿನ ಸೂಚನೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ದ್ವೇಷಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು `ನಿಗೂಢ' ಎಂದೇ ಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆ ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹಲವರು ಸೋಷಿಯಲ್ ಮೀಡಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ, ಯೂ-ಟ್ಯೂಬ್‍ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಖಡಕ್ ಉತ್ತರ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಬಿಂಬಿಸಿರುವ ಮುಗ್ಧತೆಯ ಪರದೆ ಸರಿದಿದೆ ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ. ಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಯಸುವ ಕಾರಣಗಳು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿವೆ. ಇದು ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಮೂಲೆ ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೊಳಗಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲನೆಯದಾಗಿ, ಹೆಗ್ಗಡೆ ಅವರು ಸೌಜನ್ಯ ಪ್ರಕರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಅದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಘಟನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಾಚಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು, ಹಂತಕರನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಜನರ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕವಾಗಿ ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲಗಳೆದರ...
