During a press conference held in Bengaluru yesterday, multi-lingual actor Prakash Raj launched a scathing attack on mainstream media houses, explicitly labeling them as 'sold media' while addressing the highly controversial Dharmasthala issue. The actor strictly criticized the media for abandoning objective reporting, accusing them of actively publishing biased content designed to shield the powerful dons of Dharmasthala regarding the alleged mass burial of women at the shrine locale. Although representatives from various prominent media organizations fiercely protested and rose in arms against his statements, the actor firmly stood his ground, refusing to backtrack on his allegations.

However, observers note that it does not take an outsider to expose the current state of Karnataka’s mainline press, which clearly understands which side of its bread is buttered. The media apparatus has largely shown monumental apathy toward the victims of gang rapes and illicit mass burials, routinely aligning itself with the perpetrators of systemic injustice and violence. This evident bias indicates that these outlets are no longer chasing truth, but are instead functioning as protective shields for influential villains.

Public frustration is also mounting over the slow progress of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the state government an entire year ago to investigate these mass burials. The SIT reportedly submitted an interim report to the government recently, which heavily implicated several powerful politicians and prominent 'Dharmodhyamis' — those who commercially trade in faith. This development has sent shivers down the spines of political heavyweights and media barons alike, who are now allegedly working in tandem to ensure this damaging interim report never sees the light of day.

To achieve this cover-up, opposition leaders like R. Ashok and Sunil Kumar are aggressively raising a bogey demanding a CBI inquiry. Because the central CBI is controlled by the BJP government, which maintains friendly relations with the Dharmasthala bosses, critics view this demand as a dishonest political maneuver to suppress local findings. Fortunately, ordinary citizens on social media are analyzing the situation threadbare, exposing these political motivations. As mainstream newspapers lose circulation and credibility due to their corporate greed, this public backlash serves as an urgent wake-up call; if the press continues to act as saviors for criminals, society will inevitably view them as the ultimate enemy.
